Nissa dress photoshoot

It always amazes me that this:

Can come from this (plus a really great photographer and a super amazing model):

(I used nearly 20 different white fabrics including eyelet and lace)

This is the new and improved design for the Nissa Dress! I’ll be detailing the new pattern in a post soon.

You can see the best pictures of this dress in my shop, but I thought I’d share some behind-the-scenes pictures here.

We took pictures at a church. To get a good background the model did some climbing 🙂

The bouquet is made of oregano blossoms from my garden. I think it adds a nice touch without taking attention away from the dress. And as you can see in the next photo, it was a fun prop too.

This particular model was such a joy to work with – she’ll be appearing again for sure!

One last aside, I entered this in the Zibbet Wedding Challenge and although I didn’t get in the top 5, it was still featured here on Pinterest!

Me? An Experienced Costumer?

I suppose it’s official now that I have been placed in the Experienced category for the Double Period Project (DPP) at Your Wardrobe Unlock’d – right alongside ladies from England and Belgium!

Last year I pored over the DPP entries (the two periods of history highlighted being the Revolutionary period 1770-1789 and the Natural Form of 1876-1882) and wondered if I could even dream of being at the level of artistry of the winners. I’m still wondering 😉 but at least I’m working toward that dream!

If you haven’t yet seen it, my dress diary with details and inspiration photos for all four garments in this outfit can be found here.

Another Picture from the Make It With Wool competition

First place Senior Seamstress and First place Junior Crocheter!

I still don’t have a good picture of the back of my entry to show the lacing, but that will come… 🙂

I also won third place in my division with my 1870 traveling dress!

American Heritage Festival weekend

I had a wonderful weekend in Queen Creek full of friends, fun and history!

I was able to be a part of the “first impressions team” on Friday (school day) when we had thousands of schoolchildren come through. Elizabeth and Melissa did the tour, and I helped keep the groups organized.

Saturday I spent mainly with Elizabeth of Rapunzels Resource and other friends.

My family (all but mom) came and joined me on Sunday. The boys have new outfits, which I hope will be featured in my gallery very soon. I also remade one of Moriah’s dresses to fit Bethany.

I spent the night Friday and Saturday at the home of a reenacting family. Their youngest daughter taught me to milk goats, so I helped out. My corset really helped to stabilize my back while I milked 🙂
