Book Review~Becoming a Woman of Simplicity

by Cynthia Heald
published last year!

I have known best-selling author Mrs. Heald ever since I can remember. She attends our church and is friends with my mom. This semester, the women’s ministries at our church is doing her newest study. Many ladies from other churches come to ours each week to hear Mrs. Heald speak on a chapter from this book.

I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ. ~2Corinthians 11:3

This is the key verse and purpose statement for this book. Mrs. Heald used this quote over and over to remind us of the purpose of simplicity:

We simplify, not just to be less busy, even though we may be right to pursue that. Rather, we simplify to remove distractions from our pursuit of Christ. We prune activities from our lives, not only to get organized, but also that our devotion to Christ and service for His Kingdom will be more fruitful. We simplify, not merely to save time, but to eliminate hindrances to the time we devote to knowing Christ. All the reasons we simplify should eventually lead us to Jesus Christ.
~Donald S Whitney
