My little Meg’s version of this dress is very much like the original except that instead of being blue with dark red trim, it is dark red with blue trim! I really enjoyed creating this and tried to reproduce it as closely to the original as possible.
It is difficult to tell exactly what the original skirt looks like, so i decided to use large box-pleats which I think compliment the bodice nicely. Like the original, my bodice features tucks and decorate trim. It has coat sleeves with split caps that have trim to match the bodice. The buttons are not functional–would you want to make all of those buttonholes by hand?
It’s a bit hard to see the details of the embroidery in the other pictures so here is a close-up of the sleeve cap.
Whenever I think of Jo March I think of this scene. Not because of what happens in this scene, but simply because of her dress! It’s my favorite costume in the whole movie, so as soon as I heard about Rebecca’s challenge, I knew that I wanted to recreate this dress.
It was difficult to get a really good image of this dress from the movie, so i mainly worked from these two.
My version is made of cotton batiste and has a v-neckline, gathered bodice and full bishop sleeves. The sash is a ribbon from my collection.
